George P. Gabriel was born in St. John,  New Brunswick in 1933. He lived for several years in Halifax, Nova Scotia
displaying ability in sketching at an early age. During his sales career in Ontario he did some commissioned artwork
and after retirement he has continued to work in oils. A return visit to Canada's east coast in 1999 inspired the
paintings of Peggy's Cove in realistic style with full rich color. "The Old Mill: View through Window" is a
portrayal of the grist mill ruins at Rockwood, Ontario near hometown Guelph.
