in a scene from Intimate Betrayal

Congratulations to Tom Slater, of the John F. Ross Collegiate Drama Department, and the cast and crew of Intimate Betrayal, which was recently honoured by being chosen to represent Canada at the prestigious International Thespian Festival in Lincoln, Nebraska, June 26 to July 1, 2000. An international panel of screeners gave the play top honours with an overall rating of “excellent.”

Written and directed by Tom Slater, Intimate Betrayal, is a one-hour play about teenagers dealing with the issue of sexual assault. The story follows the lives of five teenage friends in their senior year of high school, depicting how their friendships are tested when one of the girls accuses a male friend of rape. The action takes place following the alleged assault, and audience members must decide for themselves whether or not the assault actually occurred.

Intimate Betrayal is currently touring in Southwestern Ontario in partnership with Guelph Women in Crisis. On April 13, two performances will take place at the River Run Centre. Slater says that proceeds from ticket sales will help defray costs of the trip to Nebraska but more funds are needed to make the trip a reality.

To make a contribution, contact Tom Slater at 822-7090. To purchase tickets for the April 13 performances (2/8 p.m.) call 763-3000.
